I met with my financial advisor today to go over my retirement status and it’s pretty depressing and I know I’m probably in a better position than a lot of other people.

I’m 36 and to retire on $40,000/yr I will need to invest around $15,000-20,000/yr starting now. This assumes the Canadian Pension Plan still exists when I retire and that I make a return on my investments of around 6-7%/year which has never happened for me.
